RECORDAME - Joe Henderson

Latin/Bossa Nova

This tune composed in 1963 by Joe Henderson. 16 Bar form, A B. Usually played in a Bossa Nova/Latin feel. Learning this standard is a really good way to get into learning how to play with more of a straight 8ths feel, finding the appropriate clave to play under the soloist. Make sure the introduction is learnt thoroughly as well.

Drums, Piano and Bass

Watch and listen to this version before trying to practise along with the videos without piano/bass. Listen to how Adam Birnbaum shapes his solo, bringing in various different ostinatos and concepts, using linear playing.

Drums

Focus on the 16th notes in the brushes especially, recreating the sound of a shaker. Listen to the accent of the off beats and how that changes the weight of the on beat.
