CONFIRMATION - Charlie Parker
Up-tempo swing
This tune is one of Charlie Parker's most notable standards written in 1946. The melody is very tricky to play, and involves a lot of be-bop language, although the chords are easier to solo over, using the extended cycle of fifths. Learning this standard in all 12 keys is a great challenge. Learn the intro on specific recordings.
Drums, Piano and Bass
Watch and listen to this version before trying to practise along with the videos without piano/bass. Listen to how the head is only played on the head out, not the head in.
Drums and Bass
Listen to how the top of the sections are marked with an emphasis on beat one. This is crucial facility to have in your playing, especially when playing at faster tempos, as band members may be lost.
Drums
Listen to the snare and bass drum comping, quoting various be bop phrases. Focus also on keeping high intensity at quieter volumes, for example in the bass trading. Learn the melody on the snare drum!
Bass
Focus on the driving energy in the beat, and the space left in the soloing. Listen to the similarity in the bass lines, to classical music.
